What is the role of the federal reserve in monetary policy and regulation?

The Federal Reserve is the United State's De-centralized Central Bank. Since we got rid of the gold standard, currency has been based off other countries currency. The job of the Federal Reserve is to manipulate the interest rates of our money to either lower the value of it to help pay off debt and invite growth or to raise the value of it to encourage imports and stabilization.
