Why is Obama afraid and respectful of Republicans?

They constantly slander him, not one will work with him, and they would love to impeach him. Why all the bi-partisan talk? Why not write the health care bill good for the country opposed to insurance and republican interest? Why fight wars that none of his supporters want? Why no banking regulations? Why no moratoriums on foreclosures? Why the minimal public works campign? Is he afraid of something we don't know about?
