Had signs of labor for a day and a half and now nothing for a whole day? whats up?

i am overdue already by 4 days and the day after my due date i finally started showing my first signs of labor soon. sore back and some contractions that were irregular and mild about 34-50 mins apart but i figured hey its a start LOL. but they didnt ever get any worse and closer together...and now everything has stopped completely. this isnt the first time...i was put on bed rest at 29 weeks cuz i was starting early signs of labor but then it got better. then at my 37 week appt the doc said she dropped down and was low then the following week said she came back out of the birth c. whats going on? its like i keep starting and stopping! i know this does happen but geez how long can this go on? i really am wanting to go naturally and not be induced, my doc is already trying to pressure me into induction (ive just canceled my induction for monday morning since all tests came back good for what he thought i had wrong and hes been trying to get me induced since 37 weeks prego since its easier on everyone). i go for an NST on tuesday and im worried i wont be able to stall him any longer on an induction. i know i can go two weeks but he doesnt seem like he wants to let me go that long lol. how long did you toggle with labor before you finally went in? could it possibly just hit me all at once? well i know my water could break but as far as contractions they went away completely it seems. thanks!
